The Nightweavers Accused of Playing the Long Game

Rival families question whether recent events are mere coincidence or evidence of careful planning as the contest for the Thorned Crown draws ever closer.

Fresh questions have emerged regarding the activities of the Nightweavers following a series of unusual developments in the months leading up to the Unseelie Gathering.

While no formal accusations have been made, members of both the Flameborn and Withered camps have privately expressed concerns that the family may be quietly positioning itself ahead of this year’s contest for the Thorned Crown.

The rumours began after several independent events appeared to benefit the Nightweavers in ways many observers consider difficult to ignore.

Among the incidents cited are the sudden appearance of Nightweaver banners in territories traditionally loyal to rival families, a growing number of unaffiliated travellers pledging support to the family, and the increasingly common sight of ravens delivering messages throughout the realm.

None of these actions violate any known agreements.

Nevertheless, suspicions remain.

One Flameborn representative, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the Gazette:

“Every year people say the Nightweavers are up to something. Every year they insist they’re not. Then somehow things work out exactly as they hoped.”

The Nightweavers have dismissed the claims entirely.

In a brief statement issued earlier this week, a family spokesperson responded:

“We are flattered that so many people believe us capable of such elaborate planning.”

The statement continued:

“Unfortunately, most of us are simply trying to remember where we left our keys.”

Despite the denial, speculation has only intensified.

The Withered have so far refused to comment publicly on the matter, though several sources close to the family claim they are watching developments with interest.

Meanwhile, bookmakers throughout the realm report a noticeable increase in wagers being placed on a Nightweaver victory at the upcoming Gathering.

Whether this reflects genuine confidence or merely a desire to profit from the rumours remains unclear.

As preparations continue and tensions rise between the families, one thing is certain.

The Nightweavers appear entirely unbothered by the controversy.

Which, according to their critics, is exactly the sort of thing the Nightweavers would want everyone to think.

Interesting that the Nightweavers say they’re not planning anything. That’s exactly what someone planning something would say.
